I think one of the under-examined aspects of the havoc Trump is wreaking upon the office of the presidency is the sudden acceptance that any celebrity with enough money and influence can conceivably assume the presidency. Rather than treating this as some terrible fluke and deciding to hold our commanders in chief accountable and demanding that they are qualified and have proper governing experience, everybody is talking about celebrities they think could win. I feel like this is the exactly wrong lesson to learn from 2016. Among the hundreds of other disasters Trump has inflicted upon this country, his cult of personality is one of the more concerning.
