9. Music
As per what’s shown in the original movie, I like to imagine he can play the clavichord, harpsichord, and wants to pick up organ at some point but just hasn’t gotten around to it. His favorite composers are Vivaldi, Handel, and Monteverdi specifically for the drama, but also for their elegant simplicity. (See below: pur ti miro and his other favorite piangero la sorte mia)

22. Family
Herbert is surprisingly domestic. I’ve never understood the kind of BDSM/play-with-your-food way some writers see him because he’s always struck me as someone who loves to be soft and to love on others. Herbert, as a result, has a sense for when others need his love and attention. He’s attracted to Alfred initially because of how cute he is and his own blood-lust, but I also think he can feel how love/romance deprived Alfred is.

He’s very close with his father and absolutely worships him, but at the same time loves to push Krolock’s buttons to see what he can get when he pouts the right way. His father spoils him but is also always trying to teach him new things and challenge him. They’re 11/10 father-son goals.

31. Death/32. Birth
I once read a beautiful fanfiction on AO3 that described everything in such a way that I will never be able to top it, honestly. I’ll just have to link it and call that my exact headcanon.

42. Loss
I’ve always imagined that Herbert is poor at responding to loss. He grows deeply attached to people and is always heart broken when they leave him or pass away for various reasons. Krolock has become as stoic and steady as he is to support Herbert emotionally because he has come to understand that Herbert allows himself to feel more deeply. The vampires have a choice, in my mind, to allow their feelings to weigh on them the way that human emotions do or to simply turn it all off, depending on their need as predators. Herbert has never turned them off and is actually the biggest lover and crybaby in Transylvania.
