What he means: Shhh, you’re safe. I came for you because I love you and want to protect you. I killed those bastards for you.

What Sandor says: “You’ll be glad of the hateful things I do someday when you’re Queen and I’m all that stands between you and your beloved King.”

What he means: I love you. So much that I will even defy a king to protect you.

What Sandor says: “I could take you with me, take you to Winterfell. I’ll keep you safe. Do you want to go home?”

What he means: I know that you want to go home more than anything in the world. I deserted my post but I love you so much that I risked capture to come to you before leaving so I could offer to take you away. I love you so much that I want to be the one who takes you home and protects you along the way, in the hope that maybe someday you will eventually love me in return.
