Happy black cat appreciation day everyone! This is Olive, she’s about a year old! We adopted her from Give Purrs a Chance in Bath, West Virginia. Olive was found in the wilds of the mountains through a TNR program (hence the tipped ear). She was going to be released back into the forest when one of the volunteers came to Give Purrs a Chance and asked them to take her in so she could have a chance at a better life. She almost wasn’t taken in because Give Purrs a Chance was having trouble adopting out the 17(?) black cats and kittens they already had waiting to be adopted, but thankfully, they let her in. Three days after being in Purrs, my dad saw her in the back room and picked her up. She was quite content in his arms, and we ended up adopting both her and a piebald tabby named Brooke.

Black cats are among the last cats to be adopted at shelters, and are usually the first to be euthanized. If you’re thinking about adding a cat to your family, think of adopting a black cat. They’re great! Happy Black Cat Appreciation Day!!
