By the way, bettas are the same. It’s a myth that they live in puddles. Wild bettas live in rice patties that look like this:
And you know how males fight in captivity? Yeah see, in the wild, each male betta has a territory of roughly one square meter [X]. That’s over 260 gallons of water per betta! Of course they’ll fight in a tiny 1 gallon tank! (The myth about puddles exists because, in the dry season, a betta may get trapped in a puddle, and it is equipped to survive that, but only for a short period of time). Also, notice how much is growing in that water – bettas need a lot of places to hide in and rest on, not just a single bamboo shoot in the center of a vase! They will get stressed and even more aggressive without the hides.
Fish are animals just like your other pets. Do your research before buying and treat them appropriately. If you can’t afford a proper betta or goldfish set up (at LEAST 5 gallons for a betta with a heater and hides, at LEAST 20 gallons for a goldfish with a strong filtering system and NO GRAVEL, and I recommend adding at least 10 gallons to those minimums for healthy and happy fish), don’t get one. They are living things, not decor pieces.

After reading tonight’s forecast discussion for Hurricane Florence, I noticed something about this that feels very familiar to another hurricane I experienced before: Hurricane Ike.
For those not familiar, Hurricane Ike struck the coast of Texas and went inland right through Houston in September 2008. At the time I was in high school and had yet to study meteorology, but I was familiar enough with hurricanes to have a general sense of the category system, the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale as it was known then. As Ike moved into the Gulf of Mexico it weakened substantially, only managing to get back to Category 2 from its previous Category 4 strength. When my aunt started to freak about the approaching storm, I remember very distinctly saying this:
“Why are you freaking out? It’s only a Category 2.”
What high school me did not understand was that the category is not the whole story. You see, Ike was massive, and because Ike was massive it had built up a huge storm surge as it moved across the Gulf of Mexico. When it did make landfall in Galveston, Texas it wiped out the nearby low-lying areas around it.
Two years later, that category system was renamed the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, because what people realized was that wind speed is not the only thing that determines how destructive a hurricane ultimately is. Take advice from someone who saw this same scenario play out ten years ago:
Do not underestimate a storm just because its category goes down. Look at all the risks, not just wind speed. Surge and rainfall are more often than not the most destructive and costly parts of the storm.
Reminder: Hurricane Ike FLATTENED parts of Bolivar Peninsula and the stories coming out of Galveston Island were like nightmares.
As far inland as Northwest Houston, my family and I lost power for 8 days. The “dirty side” (technical term meaning the rainiest side of the cyclone) blew threw Houston and downed trees, ripped siding off of houses, and moved lawn chairs across neighborhoods.

On June, 20th the JURI of European Parliament approved of the articles 11 and 13 of the new Copyright Law. These articles are also known as the “Link Tax” and the “Censorship Machines” articles.
Articles 13 in particular forces every internet platform to filter all the contents we upload online, ending once and for all the fandom culture. Which means you won’t be able to upload any type of fandom works like fan arts, fan fictions, gif sets from your favourite films and series, edits, because it’s all copyrighted material. And you won’t also be able to share, enjoy or download other’s contents, because the use of links will be completely restricted.
But not everything’s lost yet. There’s another round of voting scheduled for the early days of July.
What you can do now to save our internet, is to share these informations with all of your family members and friends, and to ask to your MEP (the members of the European Parliament from your country) to vote NO at the next round, to vote against articles 11 and 13.

Kauai (a Hawaiian island, if you didn’t know) is currently experiencing historic flooding, which has also caused landslides. They got around 30 inches of rain in one day, where the previous record was only 12. Not only is this affecting the people living on the island, but it’s also hurting the reefs. More than 450 people had to be evacuated, human objects, like boats, have been thrown into the reefs, and I haven’t seen anything on the news about it. Please spread the word and donate if you can, this is a major crisis and it should not be downplayed and ignored.

Kids are putting Drano, tin foil, and a little water in plastic drink bottles and capping it up – leaving it on lawns, in mail boxes, in gardens, on driveways etc. just waiting for you to pick it up intending to put it in the rubbish, but you’ll never make it!!!
If the bottle is picked up, and the bottle is shaken even just a little – in about 30 seconds or less it builds up enough gas which then explodes with enough force to remove some your extremities. The liquid that comes out is boiling hot as well.
Don’t pick up any plastic bottles that may be lying in your yards or in the gutter, etc.
Pay attention to this. A plastic bottle with a cap. A little Drano. A little water. A small piece of foil. Disturb it by moving it; and BOOM!! No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc.

All the dollar tree stores I have been in have some sort of medical aisle too. Its actually where I went first when my tooth broke for some off brand orajel (Works much faster and better than orajel imo, longer too if you put it on a cotton ball and keep it in the area) And sometimes even emergency temp tooth repair kits, which are at least $7 elsewhere. Dollar tree is a miracle.
You forgot to include the food, they have small single or two-person packets of frozen food and there’s a bunch of good non-perishable food on the shelves. 🙂 These have been a real blessing to me in times of need, so get yourself some cheap food!
when i was at my most impoverished i swear dollar tree saved my life. my favorite thing about the food section is sometimes they’d get good stuff like progresso soups or name brand cereals that had been discontinued or something – basically stuff that i normally couldn’t afford.
if you’re really struggling with money, esp if you’re at a place where you’re out of or unable to access government assistance, try making a trip to dollar tree before you hit the grocery store. it was such a huge help to me. you won’t be living large by any means, but on top of the cheap food and toiletries you’ll have access to things you otherwise couldn’t afford. even a $1 candle is a small luxury when you’re really, really poor.

The girl in the pictures is called Anne Faber and she’s been missing since Friday the 29th of September. The second photo is a selfie she sent to her boyfriend right before she vanished. She was cycling, it’s unknown where she was headed but as far as we know she had no plans with other people. She was last seen at 5 PM, the selfie was sent at 6:15 PM. It’s been since discovered this photo was taken in Baarn, The Netherlands. This was about 20km away from her house where she started her journey.
Around midnight, Anne’s parents and boyfriend decided to call the police and report her missing. She’s not picking up or answering messages, her WhatsApp messages are unread. The next day a search party was sent out, for days they searched to no avail.
Tuesday October 3rd suddenly brought change. They figured out her phone signal. It was last detected at 7:30 PM the night she vanished. It shows she had cycled from Soest to De Bilt (both Utrecht, The Netherlands). At 5 PM the same day, someone finds a coat. We only found out today that it belonged to her.
Thursday October 5th, we find a bike in a pond in Huis Ter Heide (Utrecht, Netherlands). It matches the description of Anne’s bike. The pond is drenched.
A day later on October 6th, a bag is found that also matches the description of Anne’s bag. Nothing is found in the pond. It’s been a week since she went missing.
And today, October 7th, they’re looking in the mud of the drenched pond. It’s yet unclear whether the bag is Anne’s.
Now I know many of you aren’t Dutch and don’t even live in this environment. But this girl went missing in my area, and the fact that she sent this selfie right before vanishing makes this just so much weirder. Please, consider sharing this. We don’t know what happened. She might have been the victim of a kidnapping that took her to a different country.

Yeah, the 2nd photo was sent to her BF at around 6:15, she was outside riding her bike, but she never came back. At 7:30, about an hour later, her phone signal was no longer detected.
Today, October 8th at 5:45PM we still haven’t found any new clues. Today brought no new trails or information. I’m sorry for posting this so often but she really needs to be found. I’m not a big fan of speculating, but someone knows where she is. She can’t just have vanished from the planet. She is somewhere and someone knows more. Please help.

I have a dangerous stalker who is harassing me and is threatening to kill me. He deadass said “You’re dying tonight”! He knows everything about me. EVERYTHING!!! He has my personal information and he’s using it against me. He even came to my house!!!!
We used to work together a very long time ago and we had a “Hi. Bye.” type of work relationship. He had a crush on me and he had a negative response when he found out I liked women.
I already have a Temporary Peace Order out for him and pending criminal charges against him. I desperately need the money to pay for an attorney to help me get this Peace Order approved. Because if I don’t, I will have to request for a new Peace Order. If I request for a new Peace Order I will NOT be able to reuse any of the evidence I’m using for my current Peace Order against him…I hope that made sense.
I really don’t want this man to get away with all the crazy shit he’s putting me through. I can’t tell y’all all the details because I have several court dates coming up and I’m not tryna get in trouble.
