I gotta share this with you guys I am laughing so hard right now
So a while ago, in my Tanz review, I mentioned some German tanz fans told me that Krolock’s first name is Breda and I always assumed this was a fanon name that became widely accepted (it is used in most German fanfics)
EXCEPT
I rewatched The Fearless Vampire Killers and guess what name is on one of the gravestones:
Aha, I thought, mystery solved. (Of course that’s not actually Krolock’s grave, but I finally knew where that name came from. Also I never before realized that all the graveyard vampires are Krolock’s relatives? Huh.)
So out of curiosity I googled the name Breda, and… it’s a variant of Bridget.
Let that sink in: The widely accepted name for Krolock, at least in the German Tanz community, is a variant of Bridget.
Bridget von Krolock, everyone:
I just died over here xD When I came into the tanz fandom, I noticed that a lot of people were calling him Breda. And when someone explained why my first thought was “but he’s sleeping in the crypt. Why would his name be on a tombstone in the GRAVEYARD?”
I honestly didn’t care that much though what they call him in fanfics or other stuff xD Everything’s better than Giovanni
Have we considered that Breda may be Herbert’s deceased mother? Bear with me, I haven’t seen the movie, so I don’t know the context of that tombstone shot, but I could see a world in which Breda von Krolock is a possible wife-someone?? That being said, in some time periods throughout European history, I know gendering names so rigidly was less common. Take for instance Evelyn Waugh.
